Special Picadome Neighborhood Meeting Tuesday, April 17, 2018, 7:00 pm at SCAPA

The Picadome Neighborhood Association is hosting an informational meeting to explore neighbors’ interest in a Picadome Neighborhood ND-1 Overlay.

What an ND-1 Overlay Is: An ND-1 designation allows a neighborhood to protect its character and preserve its charm by ensuring that new builds and additions to existing structures are visually compatible with the scale and physical character of existing homes in the area. An ND-1 Overlay uses objective design standards to achieve compatibility between new and existing homes. Picadome Neighborhood Association is hosting this meeting to explore interest in this possibility with the neighbors.

What an ND-1 Is Not: An ND-1 Overlay does Not require current or future owners in the Picadome neighborhood to do anything to their property.  An ND-1 Overlay does NOT turn Picadome into an Historic District.

Why Consider Adopting ND-1 Design Standards for Picadome  Neighborhood?

a. Picadome has already experienced new construction that is visually very different from our neighborhood’s existing character.

b. Growing pressure for maximum-density development within New Circle Road and our proximity to the University of Kentucky, places Picadome at risk for  new development that is not in harmony with the existing scale and physical character of our neighborhood.

c. With an ND-1, Picadome property owners, not city government or builders, will determine the parts of our neighborhood character we want to preserve and which design criteria are best suited to achieve our goal.

This meeting’s purpose will be to gauge interest by homeowners and collect feedback on potential design standards. We will answer questions about the ND-1  plan process, and will prioritize the components of the neighborhood most important to the neighbors. You do not have to be a member of PNA to participate. Come share your ideas. If you have questions before or after the meeting, please email, mail or call using the contact information in the sidebar.
